June 19th: Extreme heat across the Valley of the Sun

Phoenix Sky Harbor hit 117º on June 19th, which was just 1º shy of the record for the day set back in 2016.

Since 1896, this is only the 43rd time that the high in Phoenix has hit or exceeded 117º. Last year, it happened four times, and in 2023, it occurred nine times!

The good news is a bit of a "cooling" trend is coming to the forecast, with afternoon highs dropping into the 100-105 degree range Sunday through Tuesday.
