First cold front of 2026 leaves behind snow in Arizona!

A potent cold front swept through Arizona on Thursday, bringing with it thunderstorms in the Phoenix Valley and snow across the High Country. The satellite image above shows all the snow (everything white that is not moving), with some already starting to melt as the clouds cleared this afternoon. The National Service in Flagstaff noted that 8" of snow fell in Bellemont, 6.3" at the Flagstaff Airport, 7" just south of Munds Park, and 2.3" in Pinetop.

Very cold air settled in behind this cold front, with overnight lows in the Phoenix Valley dropping into the low mid-30 to low 40s on Friday morning. The low officially reached 42º at Phoenix Sky Harbor, making it the coolest temperature since January 31, 2025. This cool air will stick for a couple of days, with morning lows on Saturday cooler than Friday morning; however, high pressure will build back over the area, resulting in a slow warming trend later this weekend into the first part of next week.
