Dust blankets the Phoenix Valley to start July

Monsoon 2025 is starting to get more active! High pressure near the Four Corners has allowed moisture to move into the region, especially across Eastern Arizona and New Mexico. As a result, we have seen thunderstorm coverage increase, resulting in larger-scale outflows moving westward into Arizona.

One such outflow moved into the Phoenix Valley from the east/southeast last night around midnight, bringing with it gusty winds and a copious amount of dust. If you are in the Valley of the Sun and look outside this morning, you will certainly see the haze and reduced visibility.

The satellite loop below is water vapor and radar data and shows several outflows moving into Central Arizona (look for the "wave" like features coming out of the storms in Eastern Arizona and New Mexico).

Also of note, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has issued a PM-10 (dust) High Pollution Advisory for the Phoenix Valley today and tomorrow (Wednesday). You can read their full forecast HERE.
