Notice the haze around the area? Strong to severe thunderstorms in New Mexico, fueled partly by moisture from former Tropical Storm Alberto, developed across the eastern portion of New Mexico during the day of June 19th. These storms produced strong outflow winds, which sent a large wall of dust westward into Arizona (satellite image above is from the early evening of June 20th and shows the massive area of dust).
