If you are wondering why it is so hazy today across the Valley of the Sun, it is because of widespread blowing dust that moved into the area from the west overnight. Visible satellite imagery (image above is from Friday evening) shows a large plume of dust coming out of the deserts in Southern California and into Arizona on Friday evening. This dust was created from strong winds as an area of low pressure approached the region.
This area of low pressure is also responsible for the much cooler temperatures across the region today. So, while we are dealing with some haze, at least we are getting cooler temperatures.
