Fun fact: Satellite detects rain cooled ground

When it comes to weather forecasting and observations, satellites have many uses that help us understand what is currently happening in the atmosphere. They also pick up small features that can tell us what happened after a storm moves through.

One example happened this morning (Tuesday, Aug 13th), when an isolated storm developed over southwest Pinal County and dropped a decent amount of rain. After the storm dissipated, shortwave infrared satellite revealed a light color spot left behind right where the storm was. That light color indicates cooler temperatures and, in this case, shows the cool ground as a result of the rainfall. Pretty cool!
