While Monsoon 2024 has been active across portions of the state, it certainly has not been wet everywhere. As a result, drought conditions have ticked up, with moderate drought expanding across the central part of the state.
Currently, 17.2% of the state is in no drought classification, down from 28.7% at the start of the monsoon (June 15th). We have also seen a 2.5% increase in moderate drought since the start of the monsoon.
In case you are curious, this is not as bad as last year, when at the start of Monsoon 2023, only 1.46% if the state was in moderate drought, which increased to 28.8% by this same time last year (first part of August).
There is still plenty of time for rain during Monsoon 2024, so cross your fingers for more activity!
