Record-setting June rain in Arizona: 126-year record broken!

Thanks to former Tropical Storm Alvin south of the tip of Baja and an area of low pressure near the Spur of Baja, moisture was funneled up into Arizona, resulting in widespread rainfall across portions of the state on Sunday.

Yuma picked up 0.10" of rain, breaking the old record for the day of just a trace set back in 1899 (yes, 126 years ago)! Also of interest, Yuma has weather records going back to 1876, and this is only the 5th time in the entire month of June that 0.10" or more of rainfall has fallen on a given day!

In the Valley of the Sun, Phoenix Sky Harbor measured 0.26" of rain on June 1st, breaking the old record of 0.02" set back in 1914.

And further south in Tucson, the International Airport, recorded 0.35" of rain for the day, breaking the old record of 0.12" set back in 1914.

Needless to say, this was a record-breaking storm system to start June, and there are more rain chances over the next couple of days!
