Monsoon 2025 has officially started

Even though a big uptick in moisture and widespread thunderstorm activity is likely still a couple of weeks away, Monsoon 2025 started today (June 15th). In 2008. The National Weather Service declared that the Monsoon would start on June 15th and run through September 30th.

If you lived in Arizona before 2008, you may recall the old dew point rule. Before 2008, the season was defined as having started after a location had a daily dew point average of 55°F or higher for three consecutive days. Using the old system, the average start date for Phoenix was July 7th. Don't worry, here at Weather Chit Chat, we will still be tracking the dew point!

Also of note, one of the risks during monsoon is extreme temperatures, which we are experiencing right now! Be sure to stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade (or indoors), wear light color clothes, and take all available precautions to protect yourself from the heat.
