Arizona Drought Update: June 19, 2025

We are in the heart of what is known as the driest time of the year for Arizona, so drought conditions rarely improve. With that said, while we haven't seen an improvement in the past week, we have seen a very slight improvement from three months ago. Currently, 1.7% of the state is experiencing Exceptional Drought, the worst drought classification, and three months ago, 7.2% of the state was in this drought classification.

However, when comparing drought conditions to this same time last year, things are not looking great. Currently, 97.3% of the state is experiencing Moderate, Severe, Extreme, or Exceptional drought, whereas last year at this time, it was only 20% of the state.

Looking at the longer-term drought forecast, drought is expected to persist over the next several months. Remember, while the odds are tipped toward a slightly more active monsoon, rainfall during the monsoon is often fairly spotty, and extreme temperatures offset most rain.
