Monsoon 2025 rain total nearly triples in one day
What a day across the Valley of the Sun as several rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms moved through the region, as an area of low pressure moved eastward, centering itself over the Arizona/California border. This pattern allowed moisture to stream northward into Arizona, and the low itself provided just enough lift to kick off storms. Additionally, numerous outflows produced by these initial storms began interacting across the region, triggering a chain reaction of further storms.
Numerous locations across the Valley saw 1-2" of rainfall, with the Valley rainfall average coming in at just over 1". Looking at Phoenix Sky Harbor, the rain gauge there picked up 1.64"! This is the most rain in a single day since October 13, 2018. This also brought the Monsoon 2025 total from 0.91" (1.52" BELOW avg) to 2.55" (0.12" ABOVE avg). So officially, Monsoon 2025 in Phoenix will go down as being above average. Remember, the season runs until September 30.
