Arizona Drought Update: April 24, 2025

Extreme or exceptional drought covers over 67% of Arizona as we head into the two driest months of the year. The good news is that drought numbers have not changed much from last week. But, the Drought Severity Coverage Index (DSCI) ticked up one more point to 368, which is the highest value we have seen since July 2021.

Last year, at this same time, zero percent of the state was in extreme or exceptional drought, and nearly 75% of the state was in no drought or was classified as abnormally dry (the lowest level of drought classification).

Looking into the weather future, there are still some indications that the monsoon pattern will establish itself on time, which may lead to a wetter monsoon; however, only time will tell.
