The latest drought numbers for Arizona are in, and they continue to trend in the wrong direction, with 97.8% of the state now in drought conditions. That number is up 14% from last week and up over 30% from three months ago. Approximately 1% of the state is now in Exceptional Drought (the worst drought), with 38% in extreme drought. Based on the Drought Severity and Coverage Index, these are the worst numbers the state has seen since August 10, 2021.
So, is there any rain on the horizon? There are hints that we could see some rain/snow across the state by the end of next week, but it would take more than one storm to make a dent in these drought conditions.
Think rain!
