Phoenix: Extreme heat through the week

It is going to be a very hot week in Phoenix, with an Extreme Heat Warning in place today (Saturday) and an Extreme Heat Watch issued for Tuesday through Friday. So why is it getting so hot?

High pressure is currently centered over the southern portion of Arizona; however, it will shift northeast, centering itself just south of the Four Corners by the middle of the week as it strengthens. As a result, afternoon high temperatures are forecast to be at their peak on Wednesday and Thursday, with new daily record high temperatures likely to be set. The only caveat will be if any moisture can work into the area from the southeast, as the flow will change a bit by the middle to end of next week. No matter what, it will be hot, so be sure to stay hydrated, limit your time outdoors, and if you are outdoors, take frequent breaks in the shade.

Remember, in Maricopa County, you can call 2-1-1 to find a free cooling center, transportation, water, etc..
